This Providence, "This Providence" (5/5)

It may have taken This Providence almost a year to come out with their debut album on Fueled By Ramen, but something good did come from it in the end: some amazing music. This highly anticipated self-titled record does a spectacular job at not disappointing the band’s many fans.

This Providence mixes their energy infused songs with interesting beats and charismatic vocals. The album starts out strong with their current single, “A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing”, mellows down in the middle with “My Beautiful Rescue”, and then picks up again straight through to the end of the record.

Some highlights of this album include:
- "The Road To Jericho", a song with cheerful beats and powerful lyrics, such as “Hold nothing back / Like you've got nothing to lose / Love with all you have / Like you don’t have a clue what it’s costing you”, which encourage listeners to spread their love around to everyone around them.
- "... But What Will They Say", a catchy tune which sends a strong message about being yourself and not dwelling on what other people around you think of you.
- “The Pursuit of Happiness (1st Movement)”, which is one of the final songs on the album. This song mixes it’s appealing melodies with the theme that “we just need to breathe and slow down” in order to live a full and completely jovial life.

This CD has the liveliness to help wake me up in the morning along with the softness to help me fall asleep at night. With songs that cover every mood, This Providence’s new album has become one of my favorites of this year.
