Rock N Roll Soldiers, “The Two EPs” (3/5)

Hailing from Eugene, Oregon, are the Rock ‘N’ Roll Soldiers, a quartet of "groovy grave-robbing rockers". Their recently released album, "The Two EPs" is a record that was put together out of, you guessed it, 2 former EPs from the band.

The first EP featured on the CD, “The Weak Blame The Strong", has 6 widely appealing songs, filled with rhythm as well as classic rock ‘n’ roll bounce. Surprisingly, all of the songs on this EP are under 3 minutes in length. However, what they lack in quantity, they definitely make up for in quality. These songs are jam packed with steady beats and addicting tunes. “The Weak Blame The Strong” also includes the band’s first single, “Anthem”, which is a theme song that singer Marty Larson-Xu wrote for his band.

The second EP that is on this CD, titled "The High School Sessions", didn’t impress me quite as much as the first EP did. This EP, recorded soon after the guys graduated from high school, is the older of the two EPs. The songs on this half of the CD are certainly not bad, but to me they just do not stack up to the songs on “The Weak Blame The Strong”. These songs seem to blend into each other more, with monotonous melodies and repetitive riffs.

Nevertheless, no one can deny the fact that The Rock ‘N’ Roll Soldiers know how to do what their band name says: rock & roll. “The Two EPs” is a refreshing difference to what is played on the radio these days, and it was filled with more rock than Stonehenge.
