Plain White T’s, “Every Second Counts” (4/5)
The Plain White T’s have certainly come far since their days of singing cover songs in cramped basements. Their new album, “Every Second Counts”, is not only their fourth record label release, but also their major label debut.
This album, which is filled with plenty of catchy, rhythmic, rock songs, dedicates the majority of its lyrics to romance (or a lack-there-of). The acoustic track “Write You A Song” is a perfect example of the band demonstrating the ups of love, with the lyrics, “I can't say where we'll go, but the one thing I know / is how to be a good man to you / until I die, that's what I'll do”. On the contrary, songs like “Hate (I Really Don’t Like You)” show off the darker side to an ended romance, saying “You were everything I wanted / you were everything a girl could be / then you left me broken hearted / now you don't mean a thing to me”.
“Every Second Counts” does a good job at giving fans the distinctive Plain White T’s sound they love, while also adding on an excellent new edge that just barely strays from the band’s pop punk roots. This highly anticipated record is a great start to a major label success story, and it’s obvious that the band really is making every second count.
