Lifetime, "Lifetime" (5/5)
In 1997, legendary New Jersey pop-punk/hardcore band Lifetime called it quits. Now, almost a decade later, they’re back. With eleven songs coming in at less than 25 minutes, this CD is exactly what Lifetime fans have been wanting to for ten years. The album comes straight at you with the explosive opener “Northbound Breakdown”. Katz and the rest of the band tear through eleven songs, never slowing down until the last note of the closing track, “Records At Nite”.
The first single off the album, “Airport Monday Morning”, is an up and down roller coaster ride telling the story of saying goodbye to a loved one at the airport. In the chorus of the song Katz sings in his usual, sometimes unintelligible voice, “But she keeps crying / And they keep kissing / And I just hang about and listen”. The record then moves into the very high-energy song “Just A Quiet Evening”, which starts out fast before a breakdown at the end where Katz sings, “I can promise something fleeting / Just a quiet evening”.
After listening to this CD you would never be able to tell that it has been ten years since Lifetime’s last record. Lifetime has influenced an entire generation of music and is now back to show everyone that they can still do it even better than the younger bands that they’ve influenced.
