Hero Pattern, "The Deception" EP (4/5)

The Hero Pattern, who were recently chosen as one of PureVolume.com's PurePicks, are an upbeat rock four-piece straight out of New Jersey. Their most recent EP, titled "The Deception", is a fine mix of rock and pop, blended together to form a record that is not only catchy, but also unforgettable.

This six-song album, lasting less than 20 minutes in length, is a quick, but delightful listen. One of the highlights on the album is the first song, a guitar-driven single called “Don’t Even Miss Me”, which describes the alluring feelings of a new love interest. Another focus of the album is the song “You Don’t Say”. This track is about a couple whose relationship is on the rocks. The bleak mood of this song is shown when lead vocalist Jason Kundrath sings, “I think that it's a sin / The way we let it get so out of hand / So where can I begin? / If you never let me in how can I ever understand?”. The EP ends with the song “Control My Heart”, which features guest vocals by Brona Jackson of Safety In Numbers. “Control My Heart” is slightly more mellow than the other songs on the album, and a perfect way to finish this well-rounded CD.

Based on the music from this EP, the Hero Pattern deserves all of the success they are finally starting to receive. You won’t soon forget about this band.
