House Of Fools, "House Of Fools EP" (3/5)

House Of Fools, one of the more recent additions to the Drive-Thru Records lineup, has done something few bands can do - show off a huge range of musical influences in just 5 songs. From Pink Floyd to Elliott Smith, House Of Fools' numerous inspirations come out in their music. Their new self-titled EP, out October 17th, contains catchy indie melodies with a twist of distinctive talent.

Called one of "The 100 Bands You Need To Know In 2006" by AP Magazine, House Of Fools brings together pop, rock, & folk with their unique sound. Songs like "My Life Before Today" prove exactly why they deserve this title. Out of all the tracks on the album, this song is the one that grabbed my attention. It's appealing melody is one that you could listen to over and over.

One of my favorite things about this record is that no song sounds the same. Each song on the EP brings out different musical aspects that show off the band's talent, leaving you interested the whole way through.

My main criticism about the album, however, is the way it flows. The EP started out with the “energetic” songs, but then got more and more mellow as the album progressed. The record felt like a downward spiral, slowly but surely pulling me in to a much-needed nap. There was no strong finish and in the end, I was left relatively disappointed.

Overall, this album is a good start for the North Carolina band. Though it is nothing close to being a timeless classic, there is no doubt that it would be a decent addition to your CD collection.
