Houston Calls, "The End Of An Error" (4/5)

After 3 years of waiting for new material from New Jersey band Houston Calls, the time has finally come. Celebrate, because The End Of An Error just so happens to be an impressive sophomore release.

From the downright sparkly intro of "I Fancy Abroad" to the gang vocalization located within "Abandone", Houston Calls proves their diversity within the pop rock genre while staying true to their roots (and of course, their danceability). One highlight off of the album is "Life Won't Wait", a catchy song about the twists and turns that accompany life. Another notable song is the track about trying to convince a girl to move to New Jersey, "You Can't Simi". In it, you can literally see the emotion in the lyrics "Your radiance has filled all of my bones and skin / I can’t leave you here / Come back with me so I can keep you smiling".

Whereas some of their songs seem completely different from what one is used to hearing from the band (such as the slow track "Stay With Me Tonight"), other songs, such as "Things Are Happening" sound like they could be something straight off of their last release, A Collection of Short Stories. Since many times I notice fans shying away from bands who change themself completely, I believe this even intermingling of new and old sounds is just what a listener needs.

After an album like this, one could only hope they were serious when they were writing the lyrics to "Modest Manifesto" - "I'll stay around as long as I can breathe / I'm broke, but not done yet". I personally hope you won't be done for quite a long time, boys.
