Houston Calls, “A Collection Of Short Stories” (5/5)
After seeing dozens of rave reviews for this CD, I was curious as to whether the album was really as
wonderful as everyone said it was. After listening to this record, I realized every review I read about
it was true. “A Collection Of Short Stories”, the debut album from Houston Calls, exceeded all of my
expectations.
From the second I started listening to this CD, I was awestruck. Each song was catchy, melodic, and
made me want to tap my foot to the beat as I twiddled my thumbs in delight. Like the album title says,
each song is like a short story, told to the listeners by compelling and well thought out lyrics. From
songs about how singer Tom Keiger’s parents met (Bob & Bonnie) to songs about late night hook-ups (One
More Won’t Hurt), I was captivated the whole way through. This CD is one of those albums you can hear
100 times, and still be fond of.
“A Collection Of Short Stories” has become one of the few CDs I can listen to without wanting to skip
past any songs. This record was like a reward to my eardrums, and it has definitely become the new
soundtrack to my summer.
My suggestion : drop everything you are doing right now, go to your local record store, and buy this
album. I assure you that you won’t be disappointed. In addition, you should all be sure to keep an eye
on these guys. After making a CD this good, you know it can only get better.
