Four Letter Lie, “Let Your Body Take Over” (3.5/5)
Four Letter Lie recently released their debut, “Let Your Body Take Over”, on Victory Records. This CD starts strong with the song “Full Tilt Boogie”, which happens to be one of the more powerful songs on the record, from it’s heavy beginning to it’s soaring chorus. “Feel Like Fame”, one of the slower tracks (and also the first single) has almost no screaming, and is one of the more notable songs in this group. This track seems to be about being in love with a celebrity, as vocalist/guitarist Kevin Skaff sings. “I’m watching her name up on my screen / Celebrity she means everything to me / I wanna hear her voice aloud / I wanna hear her voice aloud”.
The very heavy, yet catchy track “Baby, You’re My Bad Habit” is one of my favorites on this CD. The song is full of energy from the beginning as screamer, Brian Nagan, says, “Would you just say something, please just anything? / Because I can't stand that look on your face / We're in over our heads, we're in over our heads she said”. The song finds the perfect mix between screaming and clean vocals, and will probably be the song you end up playing on repeat. Following this song is the acoustic, “Firecracker”, which is pretty good, but seems very out of place on the high energy album.
Overall the CD is a good listen, Four Letter Lie isn’t doing anything original, but at least they manage to do what they do well. “Feel Like Fame” and “Baby, You’re My Bad Habit” are great songs, and the other tracks on the album are right up there with them. This record probably won’t become your favorite, but I can guarantee that you will get some enjoyment from it.
