The Early November, "The Mother, The Mechanic, & The Path" (5/5)

After years of anticipation, The Early November’s triple disc album, The Mother, The Mechanic, And The Path, has finally been released. At three discs, 46 songs, and over two hours of music, it is a monster of a CD.

The record starts with the first disc (The Mechanic), also known as the “rock record”. It opens with “Money In His Hand”, which contains a chorus that will be stuck in your head for days. The disc continues with the full on rock songs “Decoration” and “This Wasn’t In Our Plan”. When you get to the last few songs, the speed starts to slow down, which helps make a clean transition into the second CD, titled “The Mother”.

The Mother starts off with the pretty slow track, called “My Lack Of Skill”. This song is good, but almost seems a little of out of place being the first song on the CD. The next song, “A Little More Time”, is my favorite song out of all 46. This song not only has a fast speed, but it also has one of the catchiest choruses on the album, as singer Ace Enders sings, “Wait for me here, I’ll find a home, making the mix of the perfect nineties radio songs”. The Mother is, in my opinion, the best CD out of the three. It follows a pattern of fast and then slow songs, and the arrangement fits with the album very well.

The third and final CD, “The Path”, is definitely the most unique out of them all. This CD is something I’ve never heard anything like before. There is music on this CD, but it is mixed in between talk sessions with a man and his physiatrist. The talk sessions tell the elaborate story of the man’s life through both music and speaking. The conversations are very unique, containing one distorted voice and one clean one. Vocalist and guitarist Ace Enders recorded both of these talking parts. The stand out song on this CD would be the completely reworked version of “Decoration”, which also appears on “The Mechanic”.

Overall, The Early November has done an amazing job on their newest release, considering the amount of work they had to put into this huge concept. The whole album tells a story that you can’t help but get lost in, through their impressive music and talent. This band has done a good job of setting themselves apart from their peers in the pop-punk world of music.
