Alkaline Trio, “Remains” (5/5)

Alkaline Trio has recently released a collection of 22 B-sides, rarities, compilation tracks on a single album, called “Remains”.

The CD contains tons of Alkaline Trio favorites that have finally been put together in one package. Some of these include, “My Standard Break From Life”, “Jaked On Green Beers”, and “Warbrain”. These songs are classic Alkaline Trio, with Skiba and Andriano telling tales of their broken hearts and then drinking them away. This is what Alkaline Trio does best - bittersweet pop-punk songs that will be stuck in your head for days. In one of my favorite songs, Skiba sings, “There was a time when I thought you were a friend to me / I think those times I was probably just drunk / If they offered a test about being a good friend I’d put money down that you’d surely flunk”. Another standout would be “My Standard Break From Life”, where Andriano sings, “I can bitch until my eyes are blue and you’re in bed with someone new / And I guess you deserve him / Wish I could waste my time without wasting all your time”.

These songs are some of the best Alkaline Trio songs from every point throughout their career and it’s great to finally have them together on one CD. Some of the most memorable songs are the few taken from the long out of print “Hell Yes 7”. This CD is a must for any Alkaline Trio fan.
