Plain White T’s – De’Mar Hamilton

C: For the record, state your name and what you do in the band.
D: My name is De’Mar Hamilton and I play drums in Plain White T’s.

C: Where did the name “Plain White T’s” come from?
D: Uh, I think when they started in 1997 and they were looking for band names, they just had all these names, some were really bad. I can’t think of which one a bad one was, but they looked in a bunch of CD covers. CDs of their favorite bands, like Pearl Jam and bands like that, and they were all wearing plain white tee’s. And they thought “Why not, you know? Plain White T’s are simple and they look cool”. It sounded good together as a band name so…

C: What bands are you currently listening to?
D: Currently I am listening to Coldplay, Days Away, The Exit, and Common.

C: What bands are you ashamed to admit you like?
D: Uhm…There’s a big one, there’s a big one that I really… Uhm… Hold on, I got it, I got it… Cuz I know there’s like… Hawthorne Heights. That’s the one. But I love them.

C: Can you describe each member of Plain White T’s in 3 words each?
D: Uhm, each member, 3 words each… K. 3 words. Like, separate? Like it has to be a 3 word sentence or 3 words that describe them?
C: 3 words that describe them.
D: K. Mike – funny, late, and uninformed. Tom – slow, weird, and late. Tim – muscular, hilarious, married. Dave – angry, happy, talkative.
C: Angry and happy?
D: Yea. That’s a good little mix.

C: If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?
D: Spruce.
C: Is there any reason why you’d want to be a Spruce tree?
D: Well, because it’s the first thing that came to my head. If I was to be a tree I would want to be a Spruce.

C: Is it difficult for you to be constantly surrounded by your band members when touring? Do you guys fight being so close to each other?
D: We don’t really get into fights necessarily, but I think there’s times when we get to each other and we bicker. But never anything that serious. Here and there, yea, I mean its difficult at times but you just gotta push through and, who cares. Always little things.

C: If the band were to break up, who do you think would be the one to cause it?
D: Probably Tim because he’s married and he’d probably be like “I quit”. If he quits, because it gets too hard to see his wife, then I’m gonna quit. I think everyone’s probably just going to, because we can’t… We can’t go on without each other, you know?

C: Do you enjoy playing shows on the west coast or east coast more?
D: I wanna go for the West, because the shows are way better.
C: Yes!

C: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 3 things would you bring with you? And you can’t bring any transportation devices to get off of the island.
D: Some water… a girl… and some drums.

C: If you could punch any celebrity in the face, who would it be and why?
D: Oh man, Ryan Cabrera! Because I hate his haircut so much and like… he angers me. He’s not funny! I would punch him in the face if I saw him. I would have to. I’d be like “Get a haircut” and then I’d punch him.

C: Anything else you would like to share with the Internet world?
D: If you look at too much porn on the Internet beware, because your computer will get a virus and it will slow your computer down and it will mess everything up. So just cut off Internet porn.
C: Do you know this from personal experience?
D: Hm… I plead the Fifth?
