New Disaster – Mark Johnson

C: For starters, say your name and what you do in the band.
M: Mark Johnson, I play bass and sing back ups.

C: How and when did New Disaster get started?
M: It started when Riddlin' Kids and a band called Natchet Taylor broke up. The singer and drummer of Natchet Taylor and I talked about starting a band, and it all just clicked. Then we got Abel from a band called Backlit.
C: So, it pretty much started right after Riddlin’ Kids broke up? Like, a few months ago?
M: Yeah, about a month after we broke up. Maybe a couple of weeks, I’m not sure.

C: If you don't mind me asking, why did Riddlin’ Kids break up?
M: We just decided it was time for all of us to do our own thing. We were all headed in different directions. We’re all still great friends.

C: New Disaster is well, a relatively new band. So, how would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before?
M: Fucking Rock N' Roll!!!!
C: *laughs* Is that all?
M: That pretty much sums it up. It’s loud rock ‘n’ roll, & old school, like Guns N’ Roses, The Rolling Stones, Thin Lizzy, etc.

C: What plans do you have for New Disaster? Like, are you working on any recording or touring at the moment?
M: We are currently doing demos for a record that we will be recording in early February of next year. We hope to tour after that.
C: Sweet. Well, if you come to the San Francisco area, I’ll be there.v M: Hell yeah!

C: What influences your band to write and make music?
M: Guns N’ Roses, Buckcherry, The Rolling Stones, Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden… And that we all love that music and wanted to write and play it.

C: This is kind of on the same note, but what does the music you create mean to you?
M: Fun! It’s what I’ve been wanting to do for some time.

C: If you could tour with any 5 bands, who would you choose?
M: Bands that are touring now?
C: Uhm, it can be any band, whether they're together still or not.
M: Lit, Buckcherry, Guns N’ Roses, Towers Of London, & Iron Maiden.

C: What is your favorite CD of all time? Why?
M: The Descendents, “Two Things At Once” because it is what got me into music.

C: If you somehow got stranded on a deserted island, and you were allowed to take 3 things with you, what would they be? And you can't take things (like boats!) that would get you off the island.
M: Miller Lite, Cigarettes, and a beautiful woman.

C: If you could switch places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
M: I don’t know, I don’t think anyone.
C: So you'd just stay being you?
M: Yeah, as boring as that sounds.
