American Idol 5 - Will Makar
C = Cath, W = Will
C: Who were you closest with while you were on American Idol? Who have you kept in touch with the most since you left the show?
W: The kids my age, mostly – Kevin, David, Lisa, Paris, Gedeon, & Ayla. We were in school together for three hours every day. I was close to Ace, too. He’s a great guy, & we still talk. I still talk to Kevin, David, Lisa, Gedeon & Ayla. Paris & I haven’t talked too much lately, but I got to be good friends with her during the Hollywood week.
C: What was your most memorable experience from when you were on American Idol?
W: The first time I walked onto the American Idol stage. It was a rehearsal & it was breathtaking. It was very professional, with everything a singer dreams of having to perform with.
C: Have any record labels contacted you regarding a recording contract since you were on the show?
W: Yes, but I cannot talk about it just yet.
C: My friend heard that you went to prom with someone from the show. Is this true? Who did you go with?
W: I went to prom with Meredith Bandos, who lives in Austin, TX. She was at Hollywood, and she and I became friends when we were auditioning in Austin. She’s a great singer, and a high school choir member like me.
C: On the American Idol website, you say one of your biggest musical influences is Stevie Wonder. What are some of your favorite songs of his?
W: I love his style... “Knocks Me Off My Feet”, “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing”, “Isn’t She Lovely”, & “I Wish” (to name a few).
C: What is your favorite song to sing?
W: So many… “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”, “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg”… I like to sing almost all of Josh Groban’s recordings. They challenge me.
C: Who is your favorite former Idol contestant?
W: I like Clay Aiken. I think he’s a classic, great singer.
C: You are 17 years old, meaning college is slowly but surely creeping up. Where are you thinking of applying? What do you want to study?
W: I will study music in some capacity. I would like to get a Music Business background. I’ve visited Belmont in Nashville. I like Texas universities too, especially UT.
C: You recently finished up a mini tour through South Texas with a bunch of other former idols. How did that go?
W: Fun fun fun!
C: What were some of the songs you performed on the tour?
W: “I Want You Back” (the first song I did on American Idol), “Texas Angel”, & “I Wish”.
C: Do you have any plans of doing another tour anytime soon?
W: There is a possibility of a nationwide tour with a group from South Texas. This is not definite yet.
C: Anything you want to add? Closing statements?
W: I will be starring in A Holiday Music Fantasy on December 9 & 10 in The Woodlands, Texas. Tickets will go on sale in November. The show will be at the Montgomery College Theatre. It will be a great show for sure. I’ll post a flyer soon on my myspace.
